Introducing Take Control for Women

This month, BodyByGeoff Health & Fitness launches Take Control for Women focusing on the special needs, concerns and interests of women who are pre, peri and post menopausal. Guiding the development of the new program is Karen Cleveland, former Executive Director of the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and currently Executive Director of Northern Virginia Habitat for Humanity. Karen answers questions posed by women who have expressed interest in this new program. Read below for more...

Karen, why this special program for women?
The focus of this program is to empower women to do exactly what the program says: take control. You can’t ignore menopause, but neither should you obsess about the changes taking place. Instead, use this time to assess your health and fitness goals, your own body image aspirations and your lifestyle commitments.

How do you blend health and fitness goals into this program?
Through changes in your diet and exercise, you can achieve a goal of losing, not gaining, weight. You can use the natural benefits of increased cardiovascular exercise to improve blood circulation that enhances skin tone and brings vitality to your overall appearance.

Won’t I hear all of this from my doctor?
Unfortunately, that’s not likely to occur. Instead, your best allies for turning menopause into a moment of positive change are your contemporaries who have the same interests you share in taking control.
